10/30/2009: Message to Families of Students
Dear Families of Berea College Students,
Some of you have expressed concern about what to do and what is being done if your student comes down with the flu at Berea.
While we can’t eliminate the flu from our campus community, we are doing all we can to slow its spread from person to person and treat those with symptoms. Students with flu-like symptoms accompanied by a fever should call to make an appointment with our College Health Service or see a doctor of their choice.
We’re requiring residence hall students diagnosed with flu to go home, if at all possible, in order to not transmit the virus to others. If that is not possible, they will be housed and monitored in one of our quarantine houses until they have not had a fever for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine and are feeling better. That has been taking about 5 days on average.
All students must adhere to this plan because return to residence halls or attending classes or work too soon will delay recovery and spread the flu to others.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please see answers to Frequently Asked Questions by clicking on the link below.
