10/19/2009: H1N1 Flu Update

Dear Bereans,

It's been a while since we've written to you about H1N1 flu but we'd like to remind you, as flu incidents increase in both our Berea College and the general population, to take recommended precautions against infection including frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and not attending class or labor when experiencing flu symptoms.  The time to contact Health Service is if you experience a combination of symptoms including fever, cough, headache and body aches.  While it does not prevent contraction of H1N1, seasonal flu shots are still recommended and are provided free of charge to students and employees according to the schedule earlier provided for flu shot clinics.

Anyone diagnosed with Influenza Type A should not attend class or labor until at least 24 hours after fever has abated without the use of fever reducing drugs.  Residential students diagnosed with flu should advise their roommates and Collegium member or Hall Coordinator of their condition and go home until their symptoms are gone.

Detailed flu information is available on the flunews website accessed via the Berea homepage or through the MyBerea portal.
