Sick and Vacation Leave Policy
Scope: All Berea College Externally Sponsored Programs Staff
Effective Date: February 1, 2012
Purpose: To establish guidelines for sick leave and vacation leave for all Berea College Externally Sponsored Programs staff
If any staff member needs to miss work due to illness, it is their responsibility to email their direct supervisor and Heather Dufour (Heather_Dufour@berea.edu) by 8:30 a.m. and let them know that they will not be in that day. If a staff member does not have internet access, they should call both their direct supervisor and Heather (859) 985-3551 by 8:30 a.m. to inform them of their illness.
By 9 a.m. each day, Heather will send out an absence report to the Leadership Team; the Leadership Team can then send report on to other staff, as necessary.
If a staff member must leave during the day for sick leave, they should let their direct supervisor know prior to leaving and email Heather as soon as possible.
For vacation time of 3 or more days, staff members must request supervisor approval at least two weeks in advance. The employee should submit the request for leave in an email to their supervisor and the email approving the leave should be forwarded to Heather Dufour. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure that the email with approval is forwarded to Heather Dufour.
If any staff member wants to take vacation time of less than 3 days, a 1-day advance notice is required as well as supervisor approval. The employee should submit the request for leave in an email to their supervisor and the email approving the leave should be forwarded to Heather Dufour. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure that the email with approval is forwarded to Heather Dufour.
