Dreama Gentry leads Berea College’s outreach into rural Appalachian Kentucky.  With an annual budget of $18 million dollars and a staff of one hundred and forty, Gentry provides leadership to federally and privately funded programs that improve educational outcomes of rural Appalachian youth and their families.  

Gentry collaborates with communities to design programs that meet the needs of rural youth, parents and schools.  Since 1999, she has designed and implemented programs that connect Berea College with 19 rural school districts serving more than 20,000 rural Kentucky youth.  Federally funded programs include three GEAR UP Partnerships, Promise Neighborhood Implementation, i3 Development, Office of Violence Against Women STEP, Office of Justice Programs Strategic Enhancement to Mentoring, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science, and Talent Search.
A first generation college graduate from rural Appalachia, Gentry holds a B.A. in Political Science from Berea College and a Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College. She resides in Berea with her husband Hasan Davis, Commissioner of Juvenile Justice for Kentucky, and their sons, Malcolm and Christopher.
