Andy Beichler came to Appalachia from Louisville, KY to attend Berea College. After graduating in 1991 with a degree in Elementary Education, Beichler worked for 4 years as a preschool/Kindergarten teacher at the Berea Children’s Center. From 1995-1999, he served as a volunteer coordinator, youth leadership trainer and Student Entrepreneur Center lead staff for Forward in the Fifth. Beichler returned to Berea College as the Services Coordinator for the first GEAR UP grant in 1999. In 2002, Beichler joined the staff of Save the Children. Over his ten-year career there, Beichler eventually became the Director of Implementation for U.S. Programs. As director, Beichler supervised a team of over 70 sta! working with more than 140 afterschool programs across the U.S. to improve literacy outcomes on an annual basis. He helped to design and to implement a program and data monitoring system that tracked the progress of individual children, schools, regions and the entire country.
Beichler returned to Berea College as the Director of Data, Assessment and Outcomes in 2012 to bring the same level of focus to data driven improvement to the GEAR UP, Promise Neighborhood and i3 programs with Partners for Education.
