The Mafia Comes to Berea
The mafia invaded Berea College’s campus March 27-28. The Petticoat Mafia, that is. The group of five mature ladies who transformed their mountain town with their leadership and tenacity were guests of the women's studies department. They told their story at the Peanut Butter and Gender luncheon lecture March 28.

Students Mingle with CEOs in the Windy City
Members of the Berea Entrepreneurs Club (BEC) traveled to Chicago November 2-4 for the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) annual conference. The Berea College representatives included Nicholas Citizen, Brandon Martin, Shaina Ricketts, Nellie Spencer, Samantha Stolt, and Melissa Williams. Want to Change the World? There is Hope.

On November 14th, John Hope Bryant brings his experience, wisdom, and vision to Berea College. At noon, the focus will be upon Changing the World through Social Entrepreneurship as Bryant shares a luncheon with the campus community. Johanna Mair defines social entrepreneurship as “the innovative use of resource combinations to pursue opportunities aiming at the creation of organizations and/or practices that yield and sustain social benefits.”

Jordanian Visitors Exchange Entrepreneurial Ideas
Entrepreneurship for the Public Good (EPG) faculty and staff excitedly exchanged ideas on social entrepreneurship with a delegation of ten innovative women from Jordan on September 18th.  Sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana, the meeting was part of a program on Leadership and NGO Development and Civic Involvement which also included visits coordinated by the International Center with local nonprofits and CELTS, Brushy Fork Institute, and the New Opportunity School for Women. EPG Students Dress for Success
Uncharacteristically chipper for an early Saturday morning, 12 Entrepreneurship for the Public Good (EPG) ladies loaded up a van and headed out to Cincinnati March 4th for an exciting shopping experience at Dress for Success and the 4th Street Boutique. Professor Debbi Brock, co-director of the EPG program, coordinated the trip for each of the EPG Fellows to receive professional suits for their upcoming internships. [ Read More ]

Berea College student Jessica Turner wins 2nd Annual Southeastern Kentucky Concept Challenge for innovative new business ideas
Berea College junior Jessica L. Turner recently was awarded the grand prize in the 2nd Annual Southeastern Kentucky Concept Challenge for innovative new business concepts. Turner received $1,000 for her proposal for “HomeGrown Hideaways, LCC,” Ecologically Designed and Built Vacation Rentals.” [ Read More ]
