International Visitor Leadership Program: Women & Entrepreneurship

Luncheon with the Petticoat Mafia of Benham , Kentucky

The women of the Petticoat Mafia took control of the fate of their dying coal town by joining forces to raise money for their community. Through fundraising efforts and running for office, the women have transformed their town and continue to make positive changes in the community. The luncheon, part of the Peanut Butter & Gender series, is co-sponsored by the Women’s Studies Program and EPG.

Lessons in Leadership, Luncheon with John Whitehead
Baird Lounge. John Whitehead, former Chairman of Goldman Sachs, grew the business from 200 people to a global powerhouse and established Goldman Sachs’ “code of culture.” After retiring from Goldman Sachs in 1984, John served as deputy secretary of state during the Reagan administration. In December 2001, he took on the task of managing the redevelopment of lower Manhattan following the events of September 11.

The luncheon presentation will focus on Mr. Whitehead’s new book, A Life in Leadership: From D-Day to Ground Zero. The book chronicles events in his life including his years at Goldman Sachs, part ownership of the New Jersey Devils, his work with International Rescue Committee, and more. Mr. Whitehead believes that “effective leadership has to have an ethical dimension.”
