During Summer 2010, four Economics and Business Department students participated, along with faculty mentor Trish Isaacs, in Financial Literacy Essentials, as part of the college’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Project Program (URCPP).  The students were  Alex Huynh, a junior accounting student; Christelle Louis, a senior finance student; Winnifred Arthur, a sophomore economics major; and Daniel Barasa, a sophomore economics major.

The students researched available financial literacy training materials and resources, then developed four financial literacy workshops tailored specifically to Berea College first-year students.  Workshop topics include Cash Management/Budgeting, Paying for a College Education, Savings, and Debt.  These workshops, originally scheduled for October 2010, were rescheduled for January 2011.  They will be presented to first-year students in coordination with Students in Free Enterprise.
