Residential Life Accomodations
Notification of Special Housing Needs
Residential students who may need special accommodation or assistance with emergency evacuation should identify themselves to the Disability Services Coordinator and their Collegium member (see Emergency Evacuation Procedure).
Berea College is committed to providing equal educational opportunity and participation for persons with disabilities. Students with qualifying disabilities will be provided an accessible environment in which to live and study. Residential students who require special accommodations or assistance should contact the Disability Services Coordinator and their Collegium member to discuss their needs. Students will be asked to provide medical documentation of their disability for the accommodations to be granted. Effort will be made to respond to requests in a timely manner. There may, however, be circumstances which delay this process. In such instances the student will be notified of the delay and given an expected response date.
If a student, parent, guardian or advocate believes the student’s housing assignment does not reasonably accommodate the disability or endangers the student’s health or safety, a written appeal may be filed with the Assistant Vice President for Student Life within fifteen days of the assignment.
