Confidentiality
of Student Records
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), often referred to as the "Buckley Amendment," was enacted into Federal law in order to protect the privacy of a student's education records. The legislation specifies what information can be released regarding a student and under what conditions the information may be released. The Director of Academic Services maintains up-to-date information regarding these regulations. The Berea College Student Handbook and the Guide to Academic Advising also contain information regarding the legislation.
