Speech and Debate Team

Members of Berea’s Speech and Debate Team compete in intercollegiate tournaments throughout the southeast and Midwest regions. During the 2011-2012 academic year, we competed in eight tournaments and won over 82 individual and team awards.

Berea’s team also houses the reigning Debate for Democracy National Championships from 2008 and finalists from 2010 and 2012.

Debate for Democracy is sponsored by Project Pericles. Since 2003, Berea has hosted its own tournament, The John G. Fee Memorial, which offers both parliamentary debate and the standard AFA sanctioned individual events. Team membership is open to all students, regardless of previous experience, and they may receive credit for participating if they register for COM 103: Forensics Practicum.
