Curricular Practical Training
On-campus Employment
On-campus employment performed for the school as required by scholarship is permitted. F-1 students who are maintaining full time student status may engage in on-campus employment.
Employment is limited to NO MORE THAN 20 HOURS PER WEEKwhile school is in session. Students may work full-time during vacation periods as long as they have maintained status and have registered for the following academic term.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
CPT employment is available to F-1 students who have been lawfully enrolled full-time for at least nine consecutive months.
To be considered for CPT authorization, the work must be an integral part of the established curriculum. CPT may be part- or full-time. Employment for 20 hours or less per week is considered part-time; more than 20 hours per week is considered full-time CPT. Students should be aware that they would not be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) if they accumulate 12 months of full-time CPT. Participation in part-time CPT does not affect eligibility for Optional Practical Training. Please see the CPT checklist
for procedures.
The Office of Internships has listings of current opportunities and procedures for part- or full-time work experience.
Please see the International Student and Scholar Advisor for more details.
