About the Child Development Lab

The Berea College Child Development Lab (CDL) fulfills a multifaceted mission.

Facet 1: The CDL serves as a learning laboratory for college students and staff involved in the programs within the Child and Family Studies Program as well as other programs of study on campus such as physical education and health, psychology, sociology, nursing, and education studies.

Facet 2: The CDL serves as a rich resource for the scholarly and creative work of faculty and students who have an interest in child development, family life, and teaching/learning processes.

Facet 3:  The CDL serves the Appalachian region by demonstrating exemplary early child care and education services and by being a resource to other child care centers and early education programs.

The Berea College Child Development Lab (CDL) is administratively located within the Child and Family Studies (CFS) Program and is committed to upholding the Great Commitments of the College in each facet of its mission.  For more information on the Child and Family Studies Program please visit the program website.

The CDL is located at the west end of the Berea College Ecovillage.  The CDL (along with the rest of the Ecovillage complex) work hard to serve Berea College students and to teach sustainable practices.  The environmental choices we make today impact the world and the future generations.  Together, we work towards the goal of a more sustainable tomorrow.  For more information on the Ecovillage, please reference this online brochure.
