In the summer months SFA co-coordinates two tutoring programs:
Berea Reads and Berea Counts. Our partners are the Berea College
Math Department and the Work Colleges Program. These programs
are a response to the America Counts and Reads Initiatives and
parental requests. Berea Counts focuses on improving math skills
and Reads focuses on reading and comprehension skills. Both programs
target children in grades Primary-5.
Both programs require a teacher referral and consist of three hours
of one-on-one tutoring each week. Tutors are trained by professionals
and will try to meet the individual needs of each student. Children
are prioritized according to highest level of need. In most cases
we cannot accommodate children with severe learning disabilities.
Referral forms for both programs are posted here. If you are interested
in referring a student please print and complete the form. Return
them to: Students for Appalachia, CPO 2170, Berea College, Berea,
KY 40404. We will then send information and enrollment forms to
parents.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact us
at 985-3935.
