HEAL is a student led environmental and social justice organization.
They work for structural and personal change to create a just and
sustainable world. They try to accomplish this through progressive
campaigns, direct action, and educational opportunities in the
Berea College community.
Students formed HEAL to provide a collaborative space for organizing
campus events and initiating campaigns for social change. As part
of Students for Appalachia (SFA), HEAL consists of seven core staff
members and many volunteers. Each staff member facilitates one
or more campaigns that are focused on CHANGE. These changes are
meant to advance the practice of social justice and environmental
sustainability within our community. HEAL accomplishes CHANGE thorough
increasing student awareness, advocating college policy changes,
or organizing student action. We encourage all students to challenge
the local, national, and global power structures that violate human
rights, encourage excessive consumerism, suppress expression, and
degrade the environment.
