Berea College awarded
Millard and Linda Fuller, founders of Habitat for Humanity, the
Berea College Service Award. Millard Fuller encouraged
Lee Morris, Campus Minister, to begin a Berea College chapter of Habitat
for Humanity.

David McDaniels from Habitat International
spoke to Berea College faculty and students about starting
a chapter. Berea College
then went through the Lexington, Kentucky Affiliate to get started.
November
1, 1990
The first official Habitat for Humanity
of Berea College meeting took place with Steve Jones as the student
president. Steve Jones said, “I
cannot do many things some Christians do like speak and pray in public, but
this is one way I can express my faith that is real to me.”
The First Berea College project was to make saw horses in the Industrial
Arts Building. Berea College helped start the Madison County Habitat for
Humanity
Affiliate in 1991. The Berea College chapter designed and built utility sheds
under the direction of student president Ken Wheatley.
