The Ultimate Journey

The Ultimate Journey is an after-school program run within the Boys and Girls Club. This program helps to expose young children to explore the world we all live within. The children learn to interact with the beings present in nature and reflect upon just how important it is to our everyday lives. Being exposed in such a way helps to cause the children to reflect on how every action we take, no matter how small can make a tremendous impact on the neighboring environment. The Ultimate Journey’s purpose is to open the eyes of the children so that they can hold an everlasting appreciation for not just nature, but every environment and ecosystem surrounding them. Through the Ultimate Journey, kids from an urban town can experience the marvels of our natural environment and all the incredible wonders that it holds in store for them.

Teen Program

The teen program works with 13-16 year olds from the local boys and girls club. We have five main themes for this year that we are working on with the teens: leadership, civic engagement, service, self-esteem, and working together. We hope to incorporate all of these themes into a program that will help the teens discover who they are, and where they want to go. Another integral part of our program is introducing the teens to college life. To do this we bring the teens to campus one day a week and have dinner with them at the campus food service where they can see first hand what one part of college life is like. Hopefully this will help them to realize that college life is not a big scary idea and that it is something that they can do if they want to.

Torch Club

Small group of boys and girls ages 11-13 that teaches leadership through community service. Torch club members learn to work together to plan and implement programs in the following areas: service to club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.
