Welcome
Welcome to the first edition of the combined online Berea College Catalog & Student Handbook. I am pleased that the Office of Academic Services, Division of Labor and Student Life, and the Webteam at Information Systems and Services have worked together to provide a single, easily accessible online resource for you. In these times of economic challenge, this resource is a simple yet effective way to decrease costs and enhance sustainability. Not only is this electronic publication more cost-effective and user-friendly, but benefits of the online Catalog & Student Handbook also include:
- Easy, “anywhere, anytime” access that ensures students, faculty, and staff can use this one location to find the information they need. This publication is searchable in both the online and PDF versions, and HTML linkage is provided on related topics;
- A page with the answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) and contact information to encourage follow-up questions;
- An Updates page that allows the College to post changes and new information so that all visitors to this site can see quickly if any changes have been made to policies, procedures, and other crucial information since publication; and
- A PDF version that mirrors a print version, making it possible to read the publication from "cover to cover," as well as to print only the pages or sections you need.
Regardless of the changes in the content, format, and delivery technology of these publications, Berea College remains committed to its founding mission as a place of learning, labor, and service dedicated to interracial education and to Appalachia. Our scriptural foundation, “God has made of one blood all peoples of the earth,” still shapes our timeless vision and reflects our inclusive values such as “the power of love over hate, human dignity and equality, and peace with justice.” Berea College welcomes students and workers from all parts of America and the world.
Berea College has been a unique institution of education for 155 years. As you will see in the pages that follow, that tradition continues today.
Cordially,
Dr. Larry D. Shinn,
President of Berea College
