Minor in Dance

Requirements for the Minor

The minor in Dance requires a minimum of five (5) course credits, as follows:

Required Core Course

PED 245

Required Elective Dance Courses

One Dance-activity class (1/4 course credit).

All Berea students are required to take two (2) 200-level PED activity courses. This Dance activity class will satisfy one of these required courses.

In addition, 3.75 course credits in Dance are to be chosen in consultation with the Dance Adviser. These will be chosen from the following and additional courses approved to meet this requirement:

One-credit courses

PED 116 (Short Term), 233, 248, 249, 251, 305, 390/490A, 390/490B, 397/497A, 397/497B, 398/498; and other approved Short Term courses. In addition, PED 386/486 will be used from time to time to take advantage of the talent of guest artists or of the particular expertise of current faculty (i.e., a class may be offered in African dance, tap dance, classical Indian dance, contact improvisation, or clogging.)

1/4-credit courses

PED 117, 215, 216, 219, 224, 227, 228, 229, 230, 232, 234, 206Y, 206Z

1 to 3 course credits

PED 395/495

Additional considerations for the Dance Minor

Designated Short Term courses may be used for the Dance Minor. A grade of C (2.0 GPA) or higher in each required Dance minor course and in each prerequisite and collateral course is required for continuation in the minor. Students not receiving a grade of C or higher may repeat that particular course to raise the grade while remaining in the minor program. PED 245 may be approved on a term-by-term basis to meet the Active Learning Experience (ALE) requirement. (Check the Schedule of Classes to see if the course has been approved for a specific term.)
