Minor in Asian Studies

Requirements for the Minor

A minor in Asian Studies requires a minimum of five (5) course credits, as follows:

Required Core Courses

AST 122 (also HIS) or AST 123 (also HIS); and AST 132 (also REL)
or AST 135 (also REL) or AST 260 (also REL)

Required Distribution Courses

Any three (3) of the following course credits, at least two (2) of which must be outside of the student's major discipline: AST 101 (also JPN), 102 (also JPN),
103 (also JPN), 104 (also JPN), 122 (also HIS), 123 (also HIS), 132 (also REL), 135 (also REL), 204 (also PED), 205 (also PED), 206 (also PED), 229 (also HIS), 248 (also ARH), 250 (also ARH), 260 (also REL), 308 (also REL), 322 (also HIS), 323 (also HIS), CHI 101, 102, 103, and 104, as well as the following when offered with Asian content—CFS 366 (also WGS), ECO 341, PED 248, and PSC 250. At least two terms of language are recommended strongly. With the approval of the Director of Asian Studies, other courses (including transfer and education abroad, etc.) may be used to meet these requirements.

If AST/HIS 122 or 123 or AST/REL 132 or 135 are taken as Core Courses, they cannot also count as Distribution Courses.

Considerations for the Minor

Students pursuing an Asian Studies minor will meet regularly with the Asian Studies Director, but maintain their current major Academic Advisor(s). Chinese is not offered on a regular basis by the Foreign Language Department at this time.
