Minor in Asian Studies

A minor in Asian Studies requires a minimum of five (5) courses, as follows:

Required Core Courses—AST 122 (also HIS) or AST 123 (also HIS); and AST 231 (also REL) or AST 232 (also REL) or AST 260 (also REL)

Required Distribution Courses—Any three (3) of the following courses, at least two (2) of which must be outside of the student’s major discipline: AST 101 (also JPN), 102 (also JPN), 103 (also JPN), 104 (also JPN), 122 (also HIS), 123 (also HIS), 229 (also HIS), 231 (also REL), 232 (also REL), 248 (also ART), 250 (also ART), 260 (also REL), 308 (also REL), 322 (also HIS), 323 (also HIS), CHI 101 and 102, as well as the following when offered with Asian content—CFS 366 (also WST), ECO 341, PED 248, and PSC 250. At least two terms of language are recommended strongly. With the approval of the Director of Asian Studies, other courses (transfer, Short Term, education abroad, etc.) may be used to meet these requirements.

If AST/HIS 122 or 123 OR AST/REL 231 or 232 are taken as Core Courses, they cannot also count as Distribution Courses.

Considerations for the Minor—Students pursuing an Asian Studies minor will meet regularly with the Asian Studies Director, but maintain their current major Academic Adviser(s).
