Technological Infrastructure
Berea College provides students with broad access to electronic information and assists its students in developing strong information literacy skills needed to identify credible sources on the World Wide Web. Information technologies are used to enhance student learning in all the disciplines. Each student is provided with a laptop computer that can access the campus network. These computers run standard word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, as well as specialized academic software, as needed. Students have access through the College’s network to their e-mail, the Internet, academic file sharing resources, Blackboard course-management software, on-line library catalog (BANC), and many other academic resources. More than 80 campus buildings are linked to the network by fiber-optic cables and provide access through more than 6,400 ports in classrooms, offices, residence-hall rooms, and public spaces. Wireless network access is available at various locations on campus, including Hutchins Library and selected classrooms.
