Accreditation and Membership
Berea College is accredited in its awarding of baccalaureate degrees by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur GA 30033-4097; phone (404) 679-4500;
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The College also is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for the preparation of nurses and the Nursing Program has full approval status from the Kentucky Board of Nursing. In addition, the College is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) for the preparation of elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers with the bachelor’s degree as the highest degree approved. Berea College is an institutional member of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Work Colleges Consortium, the Southern University Conference, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), and the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education (AILACTE). Alumnae are eligible for membership in the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Through Spring 2008, the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) is approved by the American Dietetic Association, which will support students’ completion of the former B.A. degree in Child and Family Studies with an area of concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics, a program area no longer offered for new students entering the College.
