Interview Tips

A job interview is an evaluation of a prospective student or employee. This is the singlemost important element in job hunting. Without coming across successfully in an interview a candidate may never get a position.

The following tips have been provided for you in order to help you succeed at the interview:

  • Be on time! Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the interview begins.
  • Be pleasant and courteous when checking-in with the receptionist.
  • They will most likely give feedback to the manager on what they thought of you once you have left the building.
  • Smile!
  • Address the managers as Mr. or Ms. unless they ask you to call them by their first name.
  • Do not sit until you are invited to sit, it shows respect for the manager's territory.
  • Distract yourself by reviewing your résumé if the telephone rings.
  • Do not be "all ears."
  • Always accept a cup of coffee or a soft drink if it is offered. It shows you are sociable.
  • Never chew gum.
  • Sit up straight.
  • Do not touch your face. It can mean that you are trying to hide.
  • Do not tap your fingers, swing your foot, etc. It implies you are being threatened or are nervous.
  • Do not argue about anything, even a sport.
  • Be ready to answer all the possible questions given here.

Check your knowledge about an interview by taking the following quizzes:

**Remember: YOUR ATTITUDE separates winners from losers! Someone who is enthusiastic, motivated, and is excited to start to work will most likely obtain the job. Make sure you make good eye contact, ask questions, and show that you are not afraid to say that you really want that job.

Last minute check list:

  • Get a good night's sleep
  • Shower, shave, and brush your teeth.
  • Wear clean, freshly pressed clothes.
