Staff
All members of
the staff in the Campus Christian Center help the department
to fulfill its Mission
and Vision. The Center’s staff includes seven
professional members, seven Student Departmental Aides, and
fifteen to eighteen Student Chaplains. The Director
of the department supervises all personnel and operations
of the department. The Director and the other two College
Chaplains serve the larger community of the College in various
ways: planning and leading worship; offering various kinds
of informal counseling; working with various student groups
to plan programs, events, and activities; participating on
various College committees and task-groups; and teaching
courses in the departments of Philosophy and Religion, Women’s
Studies, African and African-American studies, and General
Studies. The Lilly Professor of Religion holds an appointment
in both the Department
of Philosophy and Religion and the Campus Christian Center. As
well as teaching academic courses in religious ethics, the
Lilly Professor offers various lecture series through the
Campus Christian Center, through which the Center aims to
explore the areas in which spirituality, praxis, and the
academic study of religion intersect about the most important
contemporary issues. The Center’s Administrative
Assistant exercises an essential role in the department,
often serving as the initial contact for students and helping
to direct them to the appropriate departmental resource. The
Assistant College Chaplain works with the department to plan
and implement the department’s programs and activities. The
Consulting College Chaplain works with the Director on the
special projects and the development of the department. All
members of the student staff, Departmental Aides and Student
Chaplains alike, serve the department in the planning and
implementation of its programs and events. The Student
Chaplains also extend the work of the Campus Christian
Center through their roles as both spiritual leaders and
Resident Assistants in the student residential halls.
