Managing Your Organization’s Online Presence

In this workshop, you will learn to evaluate your organization’s online presence to ensure that your website and social media platforms are up-to-date, consistently branded, and easy to navigate. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media tools including blogging, embedding video, maintaining an organizational Facebook page, Tweeting via a Twitter feed, and more. You will learn to integrate these technologies to make them easier to manage and seamless for the visitor who is interacting with your organization online. You will learn such things as how to update your web site, embed videos from your YouTube channel, create and manage an organizational Facebook page, allow visitors to become Facebook fans directly from your website, and more.

Jan Pearceis a Professor of Computer Science and Mathematics at Berea College.  As the founder and designer of the Computer Science Major, she is the inaugural Coordinator of the Computer Science Program and the Inaugural Chair of the Division of Resources, Technology, and Commerce at the College.  She developed the College’s web site development course, a service-learning course in which students work with community partners on their organizational web sites.  She is very interested in helping organizations maximize their online presence though the use of social media, and so in her spare time she manages numerous Facebook groups and web sites for a variety of non-profit organizations.
