Looking for Lilith Theatre Company Performs at Nov. 18 Convocation

Looking for Lilith, a theatre company based in Louisville, will present “Strangers Extranjeras: A Bilingual Play” at 3 p.m. on November 18, 2010, in Phelps Stokes Auditorium. Looking for Lilith Theatre Company.

This two-woman show presents two very different women who form a powerful friendship while reconciling conflicting world views. One is a generous, idealistic Mayan mother with limited independence; the other is an academic volunteer from the United States. Humorous and heartbreaking, the story speaks to a global family about cultural exchange, the pain of isolation, the horrors of poverty and the strength of those who persevere.

The English-Spanish script was inspired by the experiences of Jennifer Thalman Kepler and Charity Thompson, two theatre company staff members who spent a year as volunteers in Guatemala where they witnessed women, especially the Maya, being denied opportunities for education, honest friendship and emotional expression.

Looking for Lilith’s mission is to present plays that re-examine history through women’s perspectives, mainly through the collaborative creation and production of original theatre works based on research and interviews.
