Berea College Community ChoirThe Berea College Community Choir, conducted by music professor Stephen Bolster, will perform its annual fall concert on Sunday, November 21, 2010, in Gray Auditorium at 3 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature selections from the Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 52 of Johannes Brahms, Freedom is Coming, a collection of Songs of Protest and Praise from South Africa, and two spirituals arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw.

The lively Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes, sung in German, will be accompanied by four-hand piano by Jenny Bromley and Treshani Perera. Some of the members of the Lexington Vintage Dancers will be dancing to the choir’s music in the waltzes in 19th century period costumes.

The African freedom songs, popular in the anti-apartheid movement, will be accompanied by African drums. Soloists David Collins and Alice Hooker will perform two of the movements.

The Berea College Community Choir was founded in 2002 by Stephen Bolster, with the goal of bringing administration, faculty, and staff of Berea College together in a spirit of community to create and share beautiful choral music.
