Trustees Meet and Approve 2006 Grants

The advisory board trustees of the Berea College Appalachian Fund met in Berea on December 9, 2005 to review 2006 Grant Applications and discuss other business. The trustees approved $455,500 in grants to 32 organizations in Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina. Twenty -one Appalachian Fund Affiliates received 81% of the funding for a total of $380,500. First-time grantees included Appalshop in Whitesburg, KY, the Bethany House Abuse Shelter in Somerset, KY and the Clearfork Community Institute in Eagan, TN. The board welcomed new director David Cooke and set the date for its 2006 Affiliates Gathering for April 20-21 in Berea.
