Trustees Meet and Approve 2005 Grants
Appalachian Fund trustees met in Berea on
December 10, 2004 to review 2005 Grant Applications and discuss
other business. The trustees approved $433,163 in grants to 31
organizations in Kentucky and North Carolina. Twenty-three Appalachian
Fund Affiliates received 87 percent of the funding for a total
of $376,000. The trustees voted to invite the Boys & Girls
Club of Madison County to become its newest affiliate and provided
the Club with a challenge grant of $10,000 to support a technology
access program for underserved youth. First-time grantees included
the Lotts Creek Community School in Hazard, KY and the Red Lick
Volunteer Fire Department. The board also discussed changing the
date of its annual Affiliates' Gathering from April to September.
