The winning works can be a book or short piece, and may be non-fiction, fiction
or poetry. It must have been first published during the year for which the
award is made. Since 2003 two awards have been given annual, one for non-fiction
and one for fiction and poetry.
Deadline: Works may be nominated
by the publisher, by a member of the award committee, or by any reader.
All nominations for a given year must be received by December 31
of that year. Persons making nominations are asked to arrange for
seven copies of the nominated work be sent to the chair of the award
committee. The award will be presented during the spring of the following
year.
Judging: The award committee is made up of an independent
group of persons from various parts of the Appalachian South.
