The Beehive Design Collective joined us at the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center Gallery

Beehive DesignOn Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 at noon, The Beehive Design Collective joined us at the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center Gallery for a Dinner on the Grounds and an unveiling of their latest project, “The True Cost of Coal.” The Bees work together with grassroots organizations and local people to create complex drawings that explain and explore global issues visually. This time, they have taken a closer look at the coal industry and the complex issues surrounding mountaintop removal. During their presentation, they shared some tricks to reading the graphic and a few stories represented in the drawing. The graphic tells the story of Appalachians struggling for their land and livelihood and honors the history of communities affected by Big Coal.
