On Friday, October 1st, 2010, the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center hosted a screening of the new film, “Coal Country.” Filmmaker Mari-Lynn Evans from Evening Star Productions was present at the event to discuss her film following the screening. “Coal Country” explores modern coal mining with interviews from miners, activists, coal company officials, and others concerned with the economy. The film asks the big questions about “clean coal” and other routes that might be taken in the future to provide energy for the nation. It also shines light on families who have lived and worked in the region for generations, who love the land, and who are experiencing the devastating effects of Mountaintop Removal mining.
