Trustees Meet and Approve 2007 Grants

The advisory board trustees of the Berea College Appalachian Fund met in Berea, KY on December 1, 2006 to review 2007 Grant Applications and discuss other Appalachian Fund business. New trustees joining the Advisory Board are Dr. Baretta Casey of Hazard, KY and Lois Weinberg of Hindman, KY.  The trustees approved $500,734 in grants to 37 different non-profit organizations in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. Nineteen Appalachian Fund Affiliates received $367,000, 73% of the total grants funding. First time grantees included Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands, the East Kentucky Science Center, St. Agnes House of Lexington, High Rocks for Girls, the Southern Empowerment Project, Step by Step and WaysMeet Healing Arts Center. The trustees will meet again on March 1, 2007 and set the date of the 2007 Affiliates Gathering for Aril 23-24, 2007 in Berea.
