Morristown in the Air and Sun
This film illustrates the global forces that cause factory closures in East Tennessee and migrants from such places as southern Mexico to come to the U.S. for economic survival. Filmmaker Anne Lewis and migration attorney and activist Fran Ansley will speak and answer questions after the film’s showing. Co-sponsored by the Center for Excellence in Learning through Service (CELTS) and the Center for International Education.

“I Love Mountains” Day

“I Love Mountains” Day in Frankfort. Students especially are encouraged to meet with state legislators concerning issues of mountaintop removal. Our goal is for 75 Berea College students to come to Frankfort. Transportation will be provided—contact Genevieve Reynolds (by email or x 3140) to reserve a space. The Affrilachian Way: How to find the right words, then use them to change the world!

Writing workshops in poetry, fiction, and performance poetry with three Affrilachian Poets: Crystal Wilkinson, Bianca Spriggs, and Frank X Walker. Each workshop will be offered in a two-hour session in morning and afternoon, so participants could take two different workshops. This will be followed by a time for participants to share their writing and performance. Pre-registration is necessary! Please contact Genevieve Reynolds to reserve a place (859- 985-3140). Peanut Butter & Gender: Mountain Women Rising

A group of diverse Appalachian women perform stories, poems, and songs written by, for, and about Appalachian women. Mountain Women Rising conveys a strong sense of culture and place, while addressing issues of race, class, gender, and the environment in Appalachian communities. Co-sponsored by Women’s Studies.
