Appalachian Tour

About the Tour

For at least 50 years, new faculty and staff of Berea have participated in a tour of Appalachia upon their arrival to the College. Now, for the first time, the Appalachian Seminar and Tour is open to friends and alumni of the College.

Guided by Dr. Chad Berry, Director of the Loyal Jones Appalachian Center at Berea College, the tour engages participants in a meaningful week of reading, discussion, and travel throughout Central and Southern Appalachia.

Up close and personal, the tour delves into the many complex issues that impact the region, makes introductions to both leaders and folk who embrace their home and culture and are working toward solutions, and offers an abundance of local cuisine.
