The following is a guide designed to acquaint advisers with some key campus contacts and services to which students might be referred for additional levels or areas of expertise, or for help in solving a problem. Keep this list handy when meeting with your advisees. Counseling—Personal, Situational, and Psychiatric

Personal, inter-personal, and situational problem counseling, including drug and alcohol abuse, and psychiatric services, is available at no cost to students through the College Health Service, St. Joseph’s Berea Hospital. Counseling staff includes Sue Reimondo, Counseling Therapist, and Ellen Burke, Counseling Therapist (both at CPO 2174), as well as a consulting psychiatrist. Advisers may refer students (or students may refer themselves) by calling 985-3212.

All counseling is confidential and advisers will not be informed if a student did seek counseling, unless the student has signed a specific release permitting disclosure to the person making the referral.

Personal and spiritual counseling: Available at the Campus Christian Center [see separate entry]

Off-campus psychiatric services: While the waiting list can be weeks or months long, students who feel more comfortable talking with someone not connected with the College can contact the Southern Bluegrass Region Comprehensive Care, 415 Gibson Lane, Richmond (623-9367). Students must provide transportation and pay a nonimal fee per visit.

Course Substitutions

Department Chair, Interdisciplinary Academic Program Director, Director of General Education (for GST/GSTR courses), or the Independent Major Adviser must request approval of course substitutions from the Academic Program Council (with Michael Panciera, Coordinator of Advising, serving as liaison).
