By recommendation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a periodic and systematic evaluation of the advising system and of individual advisers has been established at Berea College. The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment uses the ACT Adviser Survey for assessment purposes. In addition, each faculty member is evaluated by his or her advisees at various reappointment stages, and at the time of the tenure review. The Coordinator of Advising maintains this information for the purpose of working with faculty to achieve a more effective advising system.
