The winning books may be nonfiction, fiction, or poetry. Nominations must have been first published during the year for which the award is made. In 2011, three awards will be presented, one each for nonfiction, fiction, and poetry, the latter given in honor of Dr. Grace Toney Edwards.
Deadline: Works may be nominated by the publisher, by a member of the award committee, or by any reader. All nominations for a given year must be received by December 31 of that year. Persons making nominations are asked to arrange for seven copies of the nominated work be sent to the award committee. The award will be presented during the spring of the following year at the Appalachian Studies Conference.
Judging: The award committees are comprised of independent persons from various parts of the Appalachian South.
