BEREA, KY
9:00 a.m. Relay Kick-Off at Alumni Circle, in front of the Alumni
Building, Berea College.
9:30 a.m. Relay cyclists head to Richmond via 595.
RICHMOND, KY
11:30 a.m. Eastern Kentucky University, President Joanne Glasser’s
office, Room 107, Coates Building.
1:00 p.m. Visit White Hall, home of Cassius Clay – Clay
is an important figure in the history of Berea’s history
and donated the original acreage that was to become the town and
the College.
LEXINGTON, KY
2:00 p.m. U.S. Representative Ben Chandler’s office, 1021
Majestic Dr., Suite 180, Lexington.
3:00 p.m. Meeting with Mayor Teresa Isaac – 200 East Main
St., Lexington.
April 1
8:15 a.m. Meet Dr. Toni Greider, Associate Dean, Research & Education
Division, on the steps of the Young Library, University of Kentucky.
9:00 a.m. Berea College alumni will walk/run Paris Pike from the
Ramada Inn in Lexington.
PARIS, KY
1:00 p.m. College alumnus cycling from Paris to Cynthiana on route
27 from Bourbon County High School to Cynthiana Courthouse.
April 2
BROOKSVILLE, KY (times approximate)
10:00 a.m. At the Historic Brooksville Christian Church, Berea
College staff members will lead a Sunday School session on John
G. Fee and Berea College. Later they will give a five minute
talk at the end of church service.

Christian Church).
1:00 p.m. Augusta (Ky.) Leaving from the Lamplighter Restaurant.
Caroline Miller, John G. Fee historian, will take relay members
on a tour of the former Augusta College and chapel along with the
jail where Juliet Miles, a slave whom John G. Fee purchased and
set free, was imprisoned for five months.

2:00 p.m. Visit to the Bracken County Historical Society.
2:30 p.m. Relay passes the John G. Fee birthplace, among other
historic homes where abolitionists hid while in exile.
April 3
8:30 a.m. Meeting with Mayor John Corlis, Brooksville.
NEWPORT, KY
Noon Berea College alumni relayers arrive at the World Peace Bell
and will deliver a proclamation.
2:30 p.m. After a lunch break, the Newport to Cincinnati alumni
relayers will meet at the World Peace Bell.
3:00 p.m. The World Peace Bell will ring for Berea College, initiating
the relay leg from Newport into Cincinnati, before crossing the
Ohio River
CINCINNATI, OH
3:30 p.m. Relay arrives at the Underground Rail Road and Freedom
Center. Though they are closed Mondays, they are going to meet
our Relay team. They will receive a proclamation, Berea College
history book that shares Berea’s important role in being
the first interracial and coeducational college in the south
before the civil war,
4:30 p.m. Visit Harriet Beecher Stowe House in honor of her father,
Lyman Beecher, who served as president of Lane Theological Seminary
where Berea College founder John G. Fee attended.

3 p.m. Relayers team leave Y.M.C.A. parking lot in downtown Frankfort
for Governor’s Office;
4 p.m. Meeting with Governor Ernie Fletcher or Lieutenant Governor
Steve Pence, in Governor’s Office, Capital Building, room
100 to present proclamation of friendship and copy of newly published
Berea College history book for the Kentucky State Archives

SHELBYVILLE, KY
10 a.m. Meeting with Deputy Judge Executive Rusty Newton at Shelby

9 a.m. Alumni will walk and cycle from Outback Steakhouse, 8101

KNOB CREEK, KY near Hodgenville
3:30 p.m. Visit childhood home of Abraham Lincoln at Knob, followed
by brief tour of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic
Site
April 8
GLASGOW, KY
11 a.m. Glasgow-Barren County Public Library to present new history
book and proclamation of friendship to the City of Glasgow and
Barren County
Head for Tennessee via Scottsville
April 9
GALLATIN, TN
10 a.m. Relay members will visit the City Hall/Fire Hall in Gallatin
to meet with a representative of Gallatin City Council along
with city firemen and policemen, to present proclamation of friendship.
NASHVILLE, TN
4 p.m. Meet delegate of West End United Methodist Church, 2200
West End Ave., to give proclamation of friendship and a gift
at the church, in appreciation for support by the Methodist Church
during Berea’s early history.
April 10
10 a.m. Visit the Tennessee governor’s office and present
proclamation of friendship to the people of Tennessee.
10:45 a.m. Visit the office of the mayor of Nashville at Metro
City Hall and Davidson County Courthouse to present proclamation
of friendship to the people of Nashville and Davidson County.
1 p.m. Deliver a proclamation of thanks and friendship to the
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Curator Mick Burns will
take relay members into their archives to view materials on Country
Music musician and Berea alumnus Red Foley.
FRANKLIN, TN
2:30 p.m. Visit Mayor Tom Miller at Franklin City Hall, 109 3rd
Avenue South to present proclamation of friendship
3 p.m. Visit County Mayor Rogers Anderson at the Williamson County
Courthouse to present proclamation of thanks and friendship.

Price of historic Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, site of the
1963 bombing that killed four young girls during the Civil Rights
struggle
11 a.m. Visit Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to present proclamation
of friendship and copy of new Berea College history book for Institute’s
Archives
3:30 p.m. Meeting with Birmingham Mayor Bernard Kincaid to present
proclamation of friendship at Mayor’s Office, 710 N. 20th
St.

ATLANTA, GA
10:45 a.m. Meet with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue for a brief
visit, photo, present proclamation of friendship and copy of
new Berea College history for the state library and archives,
in the Governor’s office, Room 203, in the State Capital.
11:15 a.m. Meet with Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin to present
proclamation of friendship to the City of Atlanta and a copy of
the new Berea College history book for the city’s public
library, in the 2nd floor Cabinet Room, City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave.
Mayor Franklin is the first female mayor of Atlanta and the first
African American woman to serve as mayor of a major southern city.
April 22
1 p.m. Visit Emory University Woodruff Library, to present proclamation
of friendship and copy of new Berea College history book for the
library’s collection to Charles Forest, head of the library’s
Office of Planning and Assessment.
April 23
GAINESVILLE, GA
10:30 a.m. Meet and attend Sunday worship service with Gainesville
Mayor Mark Musselwhite at First Baptist Church of Gainesville,
751 Green St., NW, where the Mayor is a deacon. The relay team
will present a proclamation of friendship to First Baptist and
the city of Gainesville.
April 25
MOUNTAIN CITY, GA
12:30 p.m. Visit Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center to present
proclamation of friendship to museum curator Robert Murray. Rooted
in the work that hundreds of high school students, in the book
series and The Foxfire Magazine classes, have put into documenting
their local history, the Museum provides visitors a glimpse of
what life was like for the mountaineers who settled the Appalachian
region.
April 29
NEWPORT, TN
11 a.m. Peace Pagoda Flower Ceremony. Buddhist community members
are working to build the Great Smoky Mountain Peace Pagoda. They
will have a prayer and a reception. The ceremony, which Berea
College will join, will focus on the acceptance of the Peace
Pagoda in the area and to celebrate spring. Berea College will
present a proclamation to the Buddhist community.
2:30 p.m. Present copy of the Berea College History book to Uplands
Retirement Community, home to a number of Berea College alumni.
April 30
NEW NARKET, TN
11 a.m. Deliver a proclamation of thanks and friendship to Highlander
Research Center. Berea College Relay Team will visit the Center
and learn about the work that the Center is doing.
May 1
KNOXVILLE, TN
10:00 a.m. Deliver a proclamation of thanks and friendship to the
people of the City of Knoxville at the City Hall
11:00 a.m. Deliver a proclamation of thanks and friendship to
the people of Knox County at the Knox County Courthouse, Mayor
Mike Ragsdale will be present.
May 2
WARTBURG, TN
4: 30 p.m. After peddling 59 miles, from Oak Ridge City Center,
Dr. Tandy McConnell, Berea College alum – along with other
relay members, will visit Mayor Becky Ruppe, the first woman
to be elected to County Executive for Morgan County. The Relay
members will deliver a proclamation of thanks and friendship
to the people of Morgan County at the Morgan County Courthouse.
Along with Dr. Tandy McConnell, Judge Michael Davis, ’83
will deliver the proclamation.
May 3
HUNTSVILLE, TN
10:00 a.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to the
people of Scott County, Tennessee at the Scott County Courthouse

1:30 p.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to Crazy

JELLICO, TN
3 p.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to the people
of Jellico at the Jellico City Hall

PINEVILLE, KY
11:30 a.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to the
City of Pineville, Pineville City Hall.

HARLAN, KY
10 a.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to the City
of Harlan and to Harlan County. Relay team members will present
proclamations at the Harlan County Library.
WHITESBURG, KY
3 p.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to Appalshop,
Inc., 91 Madison Avenue.
May 7
WHITESBURG, KY
9:45 a.m. Chaplain Douglas Chute, a 1986 Berea College graduate,
will bike 35 miles from Whitesburg to Robinson Creek.
May 8
ROBINSON CREEK, KY
Relay team will travel the road from Robinson Creek to Pikeville
and then on to Prestonsburg.
May 9
PRESTONSBURG, KY
10 a.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to Prestonsburg
City Hall. Following this presentation, Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry
S. Fannin will lead group to the Floyd County Courthouse to deliver
proclamation of thanks and friendship to Floyd County.
3 p.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to Alice
Lloyd College. Presentation will take place at the June Buchanan
Alumni Center in the second floor Board Room.
HINDMAN, KY
10 a.m. Deliver proclamation of thanks and friendship to the Hindman
Settlement School.
